8th Grade Jazz and High School Jazz One Place First

The SEP 8th Grade Jazz Band under the direction of Ted Heggen and the high school’s Jazz One under the direction of Jayson Gerth performed at the Jim Coffin Jazz Festival at Woodward Granger High School on Saturday, February 27. Both groups were awarded First Place in their class. This is the first top finish in a jazz festival for either band. Nate Sparks was awarded Best Soloist in Class 4A, and Patrick Herrera (bass), Tanner O’Connor (guitar), Sam DeLouis (alto sax), and Ryan Pearson (drums) were also awarded citations for solo excellence for their part in the SEP Jazz One’s performance. For the 8th Grade Band, Alec Martinez (guitar), Nathan Salzburg (trumpet), Lane Hacker (drums), Kaitlin Zaugg (alto sax), Cressie Goode (tenor sax), Brady George (trombone), Mike Purscell (trumpet), Sean Joelson (bari sax) and Cameron Miller (bass guitar) were awarded solo citations.
