Eighteen Southeast Polk High School Band members were recently selected as part of a group of only 100 school-wide to be honored during the 2011 Bill Burch Honors Breakfast on March 11, 2011. The Breakfast is an event to recognize the academic success of SEP high school students. The annual scholarship and recognition breakfast was first held in 1985 and includes a speaker invited from the educational and/or leadership professions.
The Bill Burch Honors Breakfast also serves to honor former counselor Bill Burch who worked at the high school from 1974-1992. A Humanitarian Award is presented to a senior student selected by the faculty as the student who best exemplifies Mr. Burch's outstanding personal qualities of sincerity and compassion toward other students.
The eighteen band students selected this year include students from the SEP Marching Band, Concert Band, Symphonic Band, Wind Ensemble and both Jazz Bands. Freshmen selected for the honor include Jordan Adkisson, Maia Hove, Jacob Lucy, Carly Polson and Carter Wright. Sophomores selected are Dakota Barnard, Ashley Hart, Whitney Overlin, Corrina Slings and Grace Slings. Seniors selected for the honor this year are Eric Angeroth Franks, Amber Cole, Danielle Connett, Calista Hagan, Meghann McCaull, Aubrey Pasker, Logan Thomas and Brandon Wisecup.
