4th Annual SEP JazzFest

Welcome!

February 11, 2017 is the date for the FOURTH ANNUAL SEP JazzFest. Our goal is to provide quality performance venues and quality feedback in an educational setting for middle school and high school jazz bands.

Each band will be granted a one hour time slot to set up, warm-up, perform and receive a clinic by two highly qualified adjudicators. Bands will need to set up their equipment only once!

There are two adjudicators in each center: one specializing in the rhythm section and one specializing in the horn section. Both will clinic the group at the same time following the performance. The length of clinic will vary depending on the set up, warm-up, and length of performance, but we estimate bands will receive at least 20-25 minutes of direct instruction from the adjudicators.

Plaques will be awarded to the first, second and third place bands in each class, outstanding soloists and sections in each center will be recognized, and outstanding soloist certificates will be awarded to students from each band. A complete ranking of bands will be sent to the Iowa Jazz Championships Committee for consideration.

We plan to provide opportunities during the day for students to learn from a combo of professional jazz educators through masterclasses on performance and improvisation.

Registration fee is $150 per band.

Concessions will be provided by the outstanding SEP Band Boosters. Admission to the event will be $7 for adults and $5 for students K-12 and senior citizens (65 and up). Non-school aged children are free.

We hope you will join us for a wonderful day of music making and education!
